Hello Friends.. if you are still around. :)

So great news for those who are still following this blog is after a very long hiatus and such I am now rethinking of starting up the sketch blog again. As I am now pursuing art as a full-time freelance illustrator I feel I have more time to dedicate to reflection, learning, and thoughts more focus towards art now.

I hope that people will return to the sketch blog and start to interact like the old times I will work on sharing my progress both as an artist and as an individual. There are a lot of topics I want to tackle with the sketch blog. I am also hoping to be more active locally and hope to share my experiences with you guys both my struggles and wins! :)

I have integrated this blog into my main website at https://carrieroedraws.com. I hope you take time to view it and would appreciate any feedback from the website.

I will also be working on the sketch blog to revamp the graphics, links and such. :)

Anyway, for anyone out there. Thank you for reading and I hope too that you return for my future updates!

This piece was created using the XP Pen 15.6 and CLIP STUDIO PAINT PRO
The brushes I have used are the Frenden Brushes which can be found on http://store.frenden.com/
I highly recommend them if you are into traditionally textured brushes. :)

A brief flashback...

Hello!!

So I was cleaning out my old files from my old computer which I sold a couple of months ago and found a couple of screencast videos from when I was still learning how to digitally paint. Here is a quick video.. I think this was my 4rth try at digital painting at that time.

I've added a few captions to it so I'd advise you to watch it in full screen mode. I used to record myself painting to see what I was getting wrong with my process and help better my composition the next time. But also the problem was I wasn't that good of a drawer.. well, I still am not that good of a drawer but still trying to learn digital painting at that time. :)

I'd appreciate a some comments and feedback. :)
I might post a couple of more videos later on I just have to figure out how to convert them to good quality though. :)

Here's another video of me and my dog, Shar pei after our 40 minute walk the other day :))
It was sooooo hot outside and she just couldn't take it so I decided to bring her back to the condo before she got heat stroke. But check out the video she looks so cute. :)

...so til the next blog post.
Cheers,

Carrie

Painting Flower pots

So I decided to fix up my room. I wanted to put more plants in the room so I figured a bright colored pot would make the room look nice as well. I painted an old terracotta plant pot I found on the porch. I was gonna make it a bright yellow but decided to go for a pink color. Check it out. :)

Conan O' Brien Process

Hello!

I've been watching a lot of reruns of the Conan show. So I just couldn't resist, I guess..

Heres the process.

I actually prefer my sketch to the final work.. I have to work on keeping the likeness of the sketch while painting and not loose the "essence" of the character.

Moleskine Video

Long time no blog. :) I haven't blogged in a while, I've been busy with personal things.
Anyway, my moleskine sketchbook is almost done and I decided to make a video of it. The pictures aren't that clear so please bare with it since I'm just too lazy to work my crappy scanner. :P I'd love some feedback on the some sketches. :)

if you notice I had some failed attempts at the styles of Ingrid Liman, Ericka Lugo, Tara Mcpherson, Stella Im Hultberg, Travis Louie. :) google them! they're great artists!

Update: I'm heading back to Vet school, enrolling today. That's all I can say on the matter. -__-

Japan Sketches and a quick preview

Here are a few sketches I did in Japan. I'll be uploading the rest later in the week so stay tune for those. Anyway  here they are

This was done during our last day in Namba. I enjoyed having sushi every night from this store right infront of the hotel we were staying at. The sushi was amazing the fish tasted like smoked salmon. :) Plus Japanese Mayonnaise! :D

This was done in Namba as well while we were eating a little bistro. The girl beside us has really cute huge glasses.

This is what I'm working on now it's a sketch for a painting I'm planning on doing. I'm struggling with the shading and lighting can't seem to get the values right.

Huge Update: Japan and 16th Hot Air Balloon Festival Philippines

disclaimer: please note that ALL pictures were taken by Carrie Josephine Rodriguez. Please do not use them without her permission.

Hello!
It's been a long time since I've blogged. (wonder if anyone is even reading this) Anyway, so we arrived from our two week vacation in Japan on Feb 8 :) once we landed in Manila I was happy and sad to be home. I loved Japan! the people, the scenery, and most of all the weather! I'm putting down going back to Japan on my bucket list.  We first arrived in Namba, Osaka which was absolutely shopping galore! I think if Rebecca Bloomwood was in Japan she'd have a heart attack! There are so many things to find and more. :) Our hotel was situated right in the middle of it all so it was really easy getting around from store to store from restaurant to restaurant. The people there were so kind, friendly and polite.  We spent most of our 3 days in Namba on a street called Shinsaibashi it was basically this long street that was just filled with stores.  Here are a few pictures from Namba

(if you guys know this band please contact me I'll add their name up)

Me in my new fave hat! My friends say I look like I'm from Russia or Mongolia when I wear it. LOL

Next stop on our trip was Nara Japan which was my favorite place I was really disappointed we only spent a day in half there. :( Oh well at least we I got to spend time with Tita Midori! (Aunt Midori Purdy)
Nara was amazing it was a much more less populated place plus it just felt like the Burbs if the burbs had wild deer walking about everywhere. :) Tita Midori brought us to the Todai-ji Temple first it was absolutely beautiful! It actually started snowing while we were there but just for a short while :( My favorite place was Nara Park. :) It was just to sit and relax and appreciate the surroundings (as well as the wild deer who'd come up to you for a pet or two) :)

Todaiji temple

The next day Tita Midori took us around the small streets in Nara to really get the feel of OLD JAPAN. We were able to go inside this lady's house it was an old fashioned style japanese house! It was amazing how intricate the house was and attention to detail and function to every which way in the house. Only in JAPAN.
See this window (above) from the outside people can't see through but from the inside people are able to see who is passing by and looking into their houses, sort of like a HUGE peep whole.
SEE...

I took this picture of Mom, my sister and Tita Midori from inside the nice woman's house. :)

After Tita Midori left Mom and I took the train to Horyuji and visited temples there. The grounds were absolutely amazing it was so big and open with a huge pond :)
(Horyuji Temple)

The next day we left Nara and headed to Uji where we looked absolutely forward to seeing the Byodo-in Temple. The Byodo-in Temple in my opinion was one of the most beautiful temples we saw in Japan. Make sure to look closely in the pictures. From across the lake you can see Buddha's face in the temple. It was absolutely beautiful!

In Uji we had lunch in this little quaint restaurant in one of the side streets it was so cute. It was filled with little collectibles and little cute plants outside.

After Uji we headed Kyoto where we spent our first night in this horrible hotel in the Gion area. Anyway, so the next day we moved to Citadines Kyoto. It was amazing there the staff was so friendly and the venue was so clean and modern looking. :) We spent 6 days in Kyoto and saw so many temples we saw over 10 temples while we were in Kyoto.

Ginkakuji Temple (Silver temple)

Heian Shrine

Higashi-hoganji Temple

Kinkakuji temple (Golden temple)
Roanji Temple
Kiyumizudera Temple (MUST SEE!!)

Few other temples we visited in Kyoto..

Then  we headed back to Osaka for a day before we left :) We went to the Aquarium, it was sooo cooL! 8 floors of fun!

and then when we arrived it was the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Clark so we last minute decided to go and check it out. So me, mum, my friend Bea my sis and her BF headed over to Clark, Pampanga to check it out.  Glad we went, it was so worth it. :)

Cheers! No sketches for this post. :) But yes, I did draw A LOT during my travels so please check my site for the update I'll be posting the sketches soon. :) Hope you all are well, thanks for checking out the blog.
